Humber River Hospital Command Centre, Toronto

Humber River Hospital, a new 750 bed hospital, needed to optimise its operations across various departments including staffing, capacity, and supply chain, while ensuring safety and efficiency in healthcare delivery.

Inspired by the command centres used in air traffic control and NASA, we developed a cutting-edge Healthcare Command Centre at Humber River Hospital. This included the design of 15 AI-powered real-time applications tailored to streamline hospital operations.

At GE Healthcare, I led a diverse team of consultants, product owners, data scientists, and full-stack engineers. Building on our initial experience at Johns Hopkins, we applied and enhanced our approach for Humber River Hospital. Each application was meticulously developed to address specific operational challenges, leveraging AI to provide real-time data and analytics for immediate decision-making support.

The introduction of the Command Centre and its 15 applications has transformed Humber River Hospital into a model of operational excellence in healthcare. These applications are now utilised in over 300 hospitals globally, significantly enhancing operational efficiency, reducing wait times, and improving patient care and safety. The scalability and success of these solutions demonstrate a groundbreaking shift in healthcare management, setting new standards worldwide.
